For a long time, I looked on with disgust as people dragged their cameras in front of scenic views and looked through their lenses and screens at nature's beauty without even bothering to use their own eyeballs first. So it was with mixed feelings that I picked up a camera. (I think mostly I wanted to play with the gadget.)
Now, I've come all the way around the circle. I still like to look first and maybe shoot later, but thinking about what I'm seeing through those eyeballs has made me a better observer of my world. It heightens the experience dramatically. I could never make another picture and still reap the benefits of learning how to "think through the lens."
Alas, I do plan to keep making pictures. They're here for you to enjoy.
